i wouldn't classify this desert as a season of doubt, but it surely is dry, & i probably know the exact solution. either way, my side of this is pretty typical, but God had something to say the other day that matters, so i'll cut to the chase:
amid the constant city-hopping that is my job, i often find myself wandering cities alone (*ehem* with Jesus of course). recently, on a stroll around Eagle (Vail, CO), i asked God to speak to me. whatever i had to say was overplayed, so i tried to hush my mind. & He did.
as semi-trucks blared down the highway over the hill, birds chirped, & cars buzzed along the road to my right, i caught the sound of silence piercing through. every bit of noise faded out eventually, even if only to return, but the silence remained like a rock through the storm.
[noise is transient, but silence is eternal.]
& there was God, in the silence, where He's always been. the noises of the world & of our desires - of everything that competes for our attention - often sound in & drown Him out, but He's still there, unchanging, constant, & fully present.
"Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you... This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day & night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, & then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong & courageous. Do not be frightened, & do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." - Joshua 1:5,8-9
i guess it's time to start asking the right questions. it's not a matter of where He is, but rather what is drowning out His voice from speaking into my life? & what is preventing me from hearing Him?
