"For the Word of God is LIVING & active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul & spirit, joints & marrow; it judges the thoughts & attitudes of the heart." - Hebrews 4:12don't think i've ever thought much into the fact that the Word of God is living, until the other day when i realized why it makes so much sense!
EVERYTHING in creation was spoken into existence - God said it, & it was [*Genesis 1-2] (with the exception of the Creator who always was, & man, whom He crafted). Everything that has life received it from the Life Source, the Lord.
"In the beginning was the Word, & the Word was with God, & the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, & that life was the light of all mankind." - John 1:1-4when i searched "the word" in the old testament, nearly every reference referred to "The Word of the Lord" & was followed by an active verb, typically "came." before Jesus's life on the earth, The Word had to come to the prophets to make (it)self known. but in the new testament, i noticed that it switched to being delivered passively, as something that is already with us.
"The Word became flesh & made His dwelling among us." - John 1:14since Jesus came & left his Spirit with us to interpret The Word (& apply the truth into our lives), the Word no longer has to come to us because it's already here.
The Word is the truth of what always has been, spelled out & handed over to us, to be spoken into our lives in soul-shaping ways by the Holy Spirit.
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting & training in righteousness." - 2 Timothy 3:16since He spoke it, the Word is a living & active entity - but in a spiritual sense. it does an internal work on our souls comparable to the external results of a snowman's exposure to sunlight... assuming we were intended to be puddles, of course. (yeah, don't take that one too far...)
after exploring the significance of all of this, a song i'd never heard before showed up on my random music stream. what a neat 'coincidence;' i love when truths resonate from different angles, & how He always seems to reaffirm revelations with song. i'm so thankful for a poetic Author who's still speaking in...
... well now it's May (oh.my.goodness), & some of my latest thoughts about my life & mission have involved what was planted with these initial ponderings. i intend to maintain this blog as more of a narrative of the lessons God is teaching me, but on a more personal note... this is what i want to be about. in an umbrella sense, i want to be about Jesus, the Gospel, bringing glory to my Creator, etc.. but so much of the joy that i experience comes from being able to deliver words of life to people. i want to be a part of that action that's moving in & through me. nothing i have to offer is worth any weight except for that which is consistent with God's truth; i want to know the Word so that it can always be on my lips, & so that i can have something to offer everyone in every situation that will bring them hope -- bring them JESUS. yep. i love that i have the opportunity to be a part of something eternal in that, & i'm stoked to see where He takes me with this goal in mind.
